Our client is a well-established business operating within the vehicle rental industry, seeking a commercially focused, technically capable leader to oversee its national workshop function.

Based at Auckland Airport, this position carries responsibility for three in-house workshops located in Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown, alongside a network of outsourced workshop partners.

This is a leadership-focused position, combining people management, operational planning, financial oversight and continuous improvement, while maintaining a strong technical understanding of automotive servicing and repairs.

Benefits

  • $120,000-$130,000 base salary, depending on experience
  • Company vehicle
  • Birthday leave - enjoy an extra day off on your birthday!
  • Five free vehicle hire days per year, plus staff discounts
  • $200 annual health and wellbeing allowance
  • Free health insurance after three years of service
  • Monthly birthday celebrations and random financial rewards
  • Ongoing training, professional development and career progression opportunities
  • The opportunity to lead and influence workshop operations at a national level

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop and support workshop teams across Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown
  • Oversee national workshop operations, maintenance scheduling and productivity to minimise fleet downtime
  • Manage workshop budgets, cost control, forecasting and operational performance
  • Oversee national supplier relationships, outsourced workshop partners and parts inventory
  • Drive continuous improvement, implementing consistent workshop processes and operational standards
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, environmental, WoF/CoF and manufacturer requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and work closely with Branch Managers, Fleet and Operations teams to support vehicle availability

About You

  • Trade-qualified Automotive Technician with substantial post-qualification experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing a workshop or automotive service department, ideally across multiple locations
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to develop and manage successful workshop teams
  • Sound commercial understanding, including budgeting, cost control, supplier management and workshop productivity
  • Strong technical knowledge of automotive servicing, diagnostics, repairs and industry compliance
  • Experience using workshop management software, ideally including iBody
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with a full, clean NZ Licence and willingness to travel nationally
  • A growth mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and embracing new technologies, including AI

This is an excellent opportunity for an established Workshop Manager looking to take the next step in their career, or an experienced multi-site leader seeking a role with genuine national responsibility.

If you have the technical expertise, leadership capability and commercial focus to drive successful workshop operations across New Zealand, we would like to hear from you.
